Mitchell Stow was born and raised in Plano, Texas. A product of PISD and a proud graduate of Plano West Senior High School. After his diagnosis with a rare and serious brain tumor at age 12, and the overwhelming medical issues he faced in coming years, his physical challenges made it nearly impossible to attend school regularly. Refusing to give up, he graduated right along his classmates with the help of his Plano home schoolteachers and the amazing support of his counselors, on-campus teachers, staff, and principals. He was recognized by those same people as an inspiration to others who faced overwhelming odds. He never gave up on his love of learning, and although he was not able to attend college due to his illness, he was a loyal and devoted OU Sooner fan. Even as his medical issues mounted, Mitch enrolled in online courses to receive an associate’s degree, where he had been placed on the honor roll.
Mitchell was determined to not be defined by or limited by his circumstances making him an inspiration to all he encountered. His selfless service and compassion for those in need leaves a lasting legacy.
Mitchell passed away in May of 2020 after a lengthy battle with numerous medical conditions. The Stow family is honored and proud to create the Mitchell Stow Memorial in the hope that his legacy can provide renewed educational opportunities for those who whose situation may seem overwhelming.
